When I make this treat, the overwhelming and delicious aroma of sweetened apples fills up the entire house, and sometimes down the driveway too! It only takes a few minutes to chop the apples and to mix them with the butterscotch, brown sugar, and nuts. I put the sweet apple mixture in the bottom of the pan and top it with the cake batter.
